Functionality of Internet configuration on Windows

Security tab

The next tab to the general is the security tab. There you have four option to choose from and their associated settings. For instance, security settings for Internet, local Intranet, Trusted Sites, Restricted Sites. Internet settings include settings for the level of security you want. This goes from a low level to high level of security settings. You can read what each of these level security includes and configure your settings accordingly. You can enable Protected mode. Privacy tab

Right beneath this you have the Pop-up blocker and an InPrivate checkbox.  All of these settings have their own button if you want to have extended configurations.

Content tab

Next to the privacy is the content tab. This tab contains the behaviour which governs what browser shows and what not to. This tab enables you to have greater control over insecure or objectionable sites, this is called content filtering. Which uses certificates and parental-control tool for family safety. This lets you become the system administrator and restrict any Web site, game or app usage and can even set rule of when anyone can log in or not. This tab also enable you to tweak the auto complete features that fills in the web addresses for you as well other settings like RSS feeds and Web slices. These methods are used to subscribe to the content of the web pages.

Connection tab

Next you have the connection tab. This is one of the most interesting tab in terms of whole network settings. You can tweak some top notch settings here. You can setup your Internet connection via broadband, dial-up. Also you are able to setup your own VPN, configure some LAN ( Local Area Network) settings. In terms of LAN settings, you do not necessarily do anything here other than configuring a proxy server. Since we already came down on this topic, let’s know about proxy server. This is probably one of the most hot topic you will come across in your job or in the field of IT.

Proxy server

Proxy server is basically a software which allows multiple of computer’s to have Internet access via one central computer which is heavily protected. Lot of corporations applies proxy server which enable filtering employees Internet access. On a corporate network you typically need to set a proxy settings in your web browser and other Internet software if required.The way it works is, typically when a request for any resources on the web, a request is sent from the browser to the place where the resources lived or configured to get request and the resources are served. This method is a direct communication.

With a proxy server, when a request is sent, the request is received by the proxy server first instead of receive by the resources directly. Hence the name proxy. This is a great way of reducing threat and unnecessary usage of resources and be a safe guard between the client computers and enables network administrator to monitor the traffic and beyond.

Programs tab

On the next tab, we have thing like Programs tab. Here you have options like default web browser, add-ons and how other programs deal with HTML files and emails. Here you also have settings for Internet programs. You can choose the programs you want to use for Internet services like email and so on. You can configure them by hitting the set programs button. Other is the file association. You can choose the type of file you want the default browser to open by default.

Next and the last tab we have is the advance tab. The name itself is self-explanatory. This tab enlists bunch of advanced options that you can tweak by checking boxes. You have options like accelerated graphics settings, accessibility, browsing and the most importantly the security settings. From here you are able to control how your Internet explorer works or to be precise worked for you.
